Overview: Das Buch Abby Lynn - Verborgen im Niemandsland ist ein historischer Abenteuerroman. Die Geschichte um die aus England stammende Abby Lynn, die zu Unrecht verurteilt und zur Strafe nach Australien geschickt wurde, spielt zu Anfang des neunzehnten Jahrhunderts. Dieser Band ist die Fortsetzung dreier Vorgänger, die Abbys gefährliche Geschichte erzählen. In diesem Band geht es um die Flucht einer kleinen Gemeinschaft, die fernab der Kolonie nach fruchtbarem Land sucht, um dort eine neue, gemeinsame Existenz aufzubauen. Nach damaligem australischem Recht war es jedoch verboten, die Kolonie zu verlassen. Somit haben sich auch diejenigen der Siedler, die keine ehemaligen Sträflinge sind wie Abby, ins Unrecht gesetzt. Aber nicht nur der Arm des Gesetzes greift nach dem Siedlertreck, sondern auch Abbys von Hass getriebene Erzfeindin, die trunksüchtige und abgrundtief schlechte Cleo. Die scheut keine Mühe, die Flucht der Siedler auszuspionieren und gibt erst Ruhe, als sie mit Soldaten die Verfolgung aufnehmen kann. Der Treck hat indessen nicht nur mit den Widrigkeiten der kargen Natur und mit Buschbanditen zu kämpfen, sondern auch mit bösartigen Mitreisenden. Nur knapp entgeht Abbys Schutzbefohlene einer Vergewaltigung. Nach zahlreichen Verwicklungen kommt es schließlich zu einem gewaltigen Showdown zwischen Siedlern und Soldaten, und alles sieht nach einem schlimmen Ende für Abby und ihre Familie aus, als unerwartete Rettung erscheint. Der Roman zielt auf schon reifere Jugendliche, die mit der Thematik von Flucht, Verfolgung, Vergewaltigung schon umgehen können. An average read for me. The pacing was a bit slow and I found myself skimming a few pages. It wasn't terrible, just okay. Probably won't read it again, but it was an okay way to pass the time.
