Dış siyasetteki temel stratejisi ise sair büyük güçlerin çıkarlarını birbirine düşürmeye, topyekûn gerilimleri Avrupa’nın merkezinden çevresine yönlendirmeye, sonra da büyük güçlerin emperyalist müdahalelerinden doğan zıtlaşmaları Afrika ve Asya’da kullanmaya dönüktü.Bu tarz bir stratejinin uygulanıp başarılı olmasını sağlayan şey ise Avrupalı güçlerin, Avrupa dışı dünyaya hükmetme yarışına girdikçe diplomasinin manevra sahasının büyümesi olmuştu. Şüphesiz ki Bismarck’la birlikte bu sahayı hâkim bir tavırla kullanmayı beceren devlet adamlarına sahip olması Alman İmparatorluğu için gayet elverişli olmuştu. Ancak Avrupalı büyük güçlerin arasına görece yeni katılan bu devlet, bir ölçüde daha doğuştan karakterinde bulunan, genel olarak emperyalist, özel olaraksa Şark cephesinde faaliyetlerde bulunmaya mecbur kalmıştı.1890 sonrası dönemde Almanya, Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’ndaki angajmanını sürekli artırarak, bir ölçüde bile isteye, gerilimlerin merkezine yönelmiştir. Kayzer II. Wilhelm’in Osmanlı topraklarına ziyareti, Bağdat Demiryolu projesi ve inşası, Boğazlar hakkında Ruslarla müzakereler, Balkanlardaki meselelere taraf çıkması Alman İmparatorluğu’nun büyük dünya siyasetinin bir parçası olarak atılmış adımlardır. I have mixed feelings about this one. Some parts were interesting, while others were a bit of a slog to get through. Probably won't read it again, but it was an okay way to pass the time.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Would probably read it again at some point.
