In 2007, she was recognized for excellence in mentoring with a Presidential Award presented in a White House Oval Office Ceremony. She is also an elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Chemical Society, and the Council of Learning Assistance and Developmental Education Associations. In 2013 she retired as Assistant Vice Chancellor and Professor of Chemistry at Louisiana State University, and in 2017 she was inducted into the LSU College of Science Hall of Distinction. She is now Professor Emerita of Chemistry and Director Emerita of the LSU Center for Academic Success, which was recognized by the National College Learning Center Association as the nation’s most outstanding learning center in 2004. Saundra has presented her widely acclaimed learning strategies workshops to faculty, students, and parents at over 500 institutions in forty-seven states and twelve countries. Saundra received her B.S. degree, magna cum laude, from Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA, her Master’s degree from Cornell University, and her Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where she received the Chancellor’s Citation for Exceptional Professional Promise. She is married to Physics Professor Emeritus Stephen C. McGuire, and they are the parents of Dr. Carla McGuire Davis and Dr. Stephanie McGuire and the doting grandparents of Joshua, Ruth, Daniel, and Joseph Davis.Stephanie McGuire holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, master’s and doctoral degrees in neuroscience from the University of Oxford, and a master’s degree in opera performance from the Longy Conservatory. She attended Oxford on a Marshall scholarship and received a graduate fellowship from the National Science Foundation. At the Longy Conservatory, she received the Victor Rosenbaum medal, given yearly to the most outstanding graduate of the conservatory. Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. It has a good balance of dialogue and description. Everything felt like it moved at the right speed. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.
