Overview: Shruti is written with a view to familiarize music lovers with the essential features of the classical music of north India. This musical tradition, known as Hindustani music, has a long history, going back about fifteen centuries. It has been kept alive, and continues to grow in popularity because of very talented exponents of this art who have maintained its classical lineage and yet modified and renewed it afresh, for every generation.It explains, in simple terms, the distinction between khayal, thumri, and other forms of vocal singing. It describes how the main instruments are constructed and have evolved over time. It was okay. It had some good moments, but the overall plot felt a bit disjointed in the second half. Just right down the middle.

Such a great read. It has a good balance of dialogue and description. Everything felt like it moved at the right speed. Will be looking for more from this author.

Glad someone recommended this to me. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Would probably read it again at some point.

Pretty good overall. I liked the main character, though some of the side plots were just okay. I'd probably recommend it to a friend.
