Overview: Tan Malaka (1894-1949) pada tahun 1942 kembali ke Indonesia dengan menggunakan nama samaran sesudah dua puluh tahun mengembara. Ketika itu Jepang sudah menduduki Indonesia. Sebagai revolusioner buangan ia bekerja untuk Komintern (organisasi komunis revolusioner internasional) dan pasca -1927 memimpin partai Repoeblik Indonesia yang ilegal dan dan antikolonial. Karena represi pemerintah Belanda dalam tahun 1930 partai itu menjadi tidak bisa bergerak. Ia tinggal di sebuah kampung kecil di jakarta dan menyibukkan diri dengan menulis karangan teoritis yang besar. Ketika Jepang nyaris menemukan jejaknya, ia menjadi mandor buruh tambang batu bara di daerah terpencil di pantai selatan pulau Jawa. Berpegang pada prinsipnya, is mengorganisasi para pendukungnya di dalam sebuah jaringan radikal yang memperjuangkan Indonesia merdeka.

I was pleasantly surprised. I loved how the story unfolded. It kept me guessing without being too confusing. Would probably read it again at some point.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.

Good, but not quite perfect. Interesting premise and executed fairly well. Just a few slow chapters here and there. I'd probably recommend it to a friend.

Finished it in a couple of days. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Would probably read it again at some point.
