Overview: An Amazon Bestseller in Short Stories, 30-Minute Literature & Fiction Short Reads, Satire Fiction, & General Humorous FictionA Humorous Short ReadRinku Saxena is like any other teenager, with one exception. She’s got an over-the-top, superstitious, maxi-clad diffuser of overlapping shoes for a mom. Which is all well and good until the end of days is upon them. And it coincides with her school’s summer dance. With her future with the boy next door at stake, can Rinku outsmart her mom into letting her go to the dance and keep her date with destiny?**Excerpt**“You are not going to the school dance and that’s that.”Mom quits on me mid-argument and walks off.“But that’s not fair,” I say, chasing after her into the living room. “Everybody’s going. Even Sheila with two left feet. And I will be the only one who won’t. And everybody would have a wonderful time but me. Mom, are you even listening?”She is searching for something under the daybed. Not finding it there, she checks around the sofas, and then behind the doors and beneath the window curtains. “You’re in eighth grade, Rinku,” she says, dropping the edge of a curtain. “How bad could it be?”She hurries out into the hallway and looks about like a headless chicken, no doubt waiting for the cosmos to flash a celestial sign—left, no go right, and you shall find what you seek.“Mom, why?”“Why what?”“Why can’t I go? It’s not like I won’t be ‘chaperoned’. Deepa’s dad will pick us up and drop us off. And I’ll be back by ten. Sharp. For sure.”“There you are,” she says instead, rushing over to the shoe stand under the stairwell and straightening with one foot a pair of overlapping slippers, cherry red. She smacks her hands with satisfaction and looks down at me as if waiting for a miraculous transformation to manifest.“I know what you are trying to do, Mom,” I say, fully aware of her modus operandi. “But I’m not fighting with you. Or arguing. Or throwing a tantrum. This one problem is not going to go away with you disarming some slippers!”But Mom, faced with squabbling kids, turns into a superstition-fueled, maxi over pajamas-clad huntress of overlapping shoes. She looks about some more till she finds a stray pump having a dalliance with Dad’s brown boots. Dad himself off on a business trip.“There, that should do it,” she says happily, and I can’t help but fume.“Don’t take it personally,” chuckles the brat, Sunny, finishing his homework at the dining table and making an early dinner of his pen. “Apparently, the world’s going to end that day.”___________The next day, Mishra aunty, mom’s bestie and satsang buddy, the one with the broad-bordered Kanjivaram sari, rings of all sorts swallowing her fingers whole, and a large black dot warding off evil on the highest roll of her cascading chin, comes to tea.She is worse than mom. ..............***Read the full story for Free on Kindle Unlimited or get a copy now.*** Happy reading! A very satisfying read. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Worth the time and money.

Not bad, but not my favorite. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. Might work better for someone else, just wasn't completely for me.

Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. Writing is good, just wish there was a bit more depth in certain parts. Still kept my attention though. Enjoyable weekend read.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Will be looking for more from this author.

I have mixed feelings about this one. It felt a bit repetitive in the middle. Could have been shorter. Might work better for someone else, just wasn't completely for me.
