Overview: This second volume of the DPSI Resource Pack Library consists of a collection of 16 role play scenarios carefully prepared and tested in classroom settings, which should assist students to prepare to sit Unit 1 of the health pathway of the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI) from the Chartered Institute of Linguists. In addition, the book should help DPSI and non-DPSI students to gain an understanding of important terminological areas for any healthcare community interpreter, such common ailments, symptoms, diagnostic tests and medical idioms, such as tems to describe pain.The author of the book, based in Glasgow, has more than 20 years of experience working in the language service industry, having undertaken a substantial number of assignments as a public service interpreter and translated several million words both into English and Portuguese for many different high profile organisations, such as the European Commission, the NHS, Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service, Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, Police Scotland, as well as other public sector and corporate organisations. In addition to being a trained linguist, the author also worked in the language service industry as a senior manager for more than 10 years, where he started getting involved in the development of training packages for interpreters and translators. He’s been involved in discussions with many public sector organisations regarding quality standards and professional development of linguists, where he has been a constant advocate of the professionalisation of the public service interpreting profession in the UK.

Glad someone recommended this to me. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.

Glad someone recommended this to me. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Would probably read it again at some point.

Such a great read. It has a good balance of dialogue and description. Everything felt like it moved at the right speed. A solid 5/5 for me.
