Overview: La obra de Alfonso Reyes, uno de los grandes humanistas del siglo XX, posee varias y muy sustanciosas posibilidades de definición general, como por ejemplo la de constituir uno de los clásicos mayores de la lengua, pero en lo que aquí más nos concierne, es el autor de trabajos muy importantes de materia teórica, rigurosos y a veces incluso de pletórica belleza intelectual, y entre ellos uno originalísimo y capital del pensamiento literario del siglo XX: El deslinde. Prolegómenos a la Teoría literaria, cuyo empeño no está dedicado a la reconstrucción histórica (como sí lo estuvieron La crítica en la Edad Ateniense, La antigua Retórica, La filosofía helenística o Junta de sombras), ni a la interpretación reflexiva (así La experiencia literaria o Al yunque, ciertamente cumbres del ensayo hispánico) sino a una singular ideación en la forma más propia del Tratado teorético. La obra teórica de Reyes es la más aguda y acabada alternativa de la Ciencia literaria humanística al formalismo crítico y lingüístico que anegó el siglo XX. A esta alternativa radical y magníficamente trazada, como enmienda a la totalidad, por un gran intelectual de México, no fue capaz de dar respuesta una cultura crítica europea y española ensimismadas y regidas por un destino enmarañado a su vez en una nueva opción norteamericana que abandonaba lo mejor de sí, su propia tradición fundada por Emerson y sostenida por Collingwood y Santayana, para arrojarse a la senda antihumanística dirigida por ciertos arribistas. Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. I loved how the story unfolded. It kept me guessing without being too confusing. Will be looking for more from this author.

I was pleasantly surprised. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.

A very satisfying read. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Would probably read it again at some point.

Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. Interesting premise and executed fairly well. Just a few slow chapters here and there. I'd probably recommend it to a friend.
