Overview: Entre febrero y junio de 1921, a sus veintidós años, Josep Pla residió en Madrid, donde ejercía de corresponsal para el periódico barcelonés La Publicidad; unos años más tarde, a partir de sus notas personales de entonces elaboró el libro Madrid: Un dietario (1929), que mucho más tarde amplió en Madrid, 1921 (1957). En 1931, con treinta y cuatro años, y ahora como corresponsal político del periódico La Veu de Catalunya, Pla estuvo de nuevo unos meses en Madrid, a raíz de la proclamación de la República; esta segunda estancia se plasmó también en un libro, Madrid: El advenimiento de la República (1933). Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. I liked the main character, though some of the side plots were just okay. Enjoyable weekend read.

I have mixed feelings about this one. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. Probably won't read it again, but it was an okay way to pass the time.

Glad someone recommended this to me. I got really invested in the main character's journey. Everything just clicked for me. Will be looking for more from this author.
