Overview: Padişahı Devirmek, 1859 ve 1867 yıllarında İstanbul'da açığa çıkarılan iki isyan hazırlığı üzerinden iktidarın devrilmesi girişimlerinin Osmanlı siyasi hayatı ve zihniyet evrenindeki izdüşümlerini ele alıyor. Bu kapsamlı araştırmasında Burak Onaran, 17. yüzyıldan itibaren imparatorlukta yaşanan hal' girişimlerinin seyrini, bu eylemleri düzenleyenleri ve taleplerini tarihsel bir bütünlük içine yerleştiriyor. Yeniçeri Ocağı'nın kaldırılmasından (1826) sonraki dönemde, Kuleli Muahedesi ve Meslek Cemiyeti mensuplarının kalkıştığı padişahı devirmeye yönelik ilk iki girişimi ayrıntılı şekilde inceliyor.Sanıkların ifadeleri ve diplomatik yazışmalar gibi ilk kez kullanılan belgelerden de hareketle, hem olayları kendi tarihsel bağlamı içerisinde yeniden anlatıyor hem de “tarihsel anlatı”nın zaaf ve imkânlarını tartışmaya açıyor. “Kuleli ve Meslek muahedeleri hakkında daha önceki çalışmaların hemen hepsi elebaşlarına odaklanmıştı. Finished it in a couple of days. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.

It was okay. The pacing was a bit slow and I found myself skimming a few pages. It wasn't terrible, just okay. Probably won't read it again, but it was an okay way to pass the time.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.
