Overview: Megan yearns to find a career suitable for her new situation, one that keeps her protecting women who’ve been trampled upon amidst her own divorce. James is her 1st date, a blind one, and at the pace it’s igniting she has no time to wonder how she’ll handle the dangers of criminal activity. Think Pulp Fiction marries those Fried Green Tomatoes while dreaming of a 007 life!Who is her date anyway? They hook up from an online service and things progress quickly. Megan discloses her divorce, lifeguard job, and three kids under age seven. James is single, Special Forces, post police officer. Both of them discover their fathers died while on duty. Obviously, they know the right side of the law and now have a connection. But 1984 has hit society by way of Edward Snowden: in the south ladies are being followed, cops are doing bad things, and just where is that mob? Two prominent women step in to help them, an opera singer and a cancer patient on the edge of destruction from chemotherapy.Meanwhile, Megan wonders if she could do this line of work, as she already helps a young mother, Maria, and her daughter, Hope, but doesn’t know the mob and police are after them. James has his forces buddies teach Megan a few basics through personal classes. He realizes she has a sixth sense being clued in sometimes when he is not. A few other characters light up the pages including Nate, Rebekka, and Suzanne. There’s a triple murder and spying going on through surveillance. The thrill is kept up by the constant barrage of spying, and secrets, with Megan’s heightened anxiety by it all. It ends on a boat in Destin Harbor after a day of fishing with the title being the catch of the day!Three King Mackerel is a spy-thriller novel of fiction with a romantic thread. It is not handsome male detective dates a pretty blonde. Protagonists Megan and James do meet on a blind date at a bar and the thrill begins. Somethings going down and James’s prior experience with police procedures, seal training, and Special Forces alerts him immediately, which sets the date on fire.Megan is divorced with three kids, all boys under the age of seven, at age 27. This is no easy task to begin with. She has an associate’s business degree, worked for a law firm, and then after the divorce used her competition swimming abilities as a lifeguard for a summer job. Now her kids will be going to school and she’s thinking about what to do. Women have a lot on their plate, especially mothers, let alone single mothers. She lands this date and thinks maybe it’s her time for love again. Things escalate rapidly as she questions everything for the sake of her kids and herself. Megan also has a roommate she’s helping, a Mexican mother of one from an abusive situation.James is on a six month sabbatical, never married, lost both parents, and (whomever) he works for gave him this time deservedly. He decides to help Megan through his buddy Nate about her roommate’s phone. Then he learns so much more about other women. James is drawn in while Megan, usually a bad ass according to her mother, sees that she needs training and is no match for this underworld of guns, drugs, surveillance, spies, and other very bad people. But James convinces her this may be her calling. She still doesn’t know exactly what he does. He feels she has a sixth sense. This may be a series!

Finished it in a couple of days. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. A solid 5/5 for me.

I liked it for the most part. Interesting premise and executed fairly well. Just a few slow chapters here and there. Still a good book.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Would probably read it again at some point.

It was okay. Some parts were interesting, while others were a bit of a slog to get through. Just right down the middle.

It was just alright. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. It's fine if you have nothing else to read.

Pretty good overall. Writing is good, just wish there was a bit more depth in certain parts. Still kept my attention though. Not bad at all.

A solid read. The middle dragged a tiny bit, but the ending totally made up for it. Enjoyable weekend read.
