Overview: PERANG JAWA (1825-1830) adalah suatu “tsunami” dalam sejarah Indonesia modern yang menghancurkan tatanan lama Jawa dan melahirkan sebuah pemerintah kolonial baru, Hindia Belanda (1818-1942). Perang total ini juga menjadi pemicu lahirnya historiografi baru. Untuk pertama kali dalam sastra Jawa modern muncul sebuah otobiografi—Babad Diponegoro (1832)—yang ditulis Pangeran Diponegoro (1785-1855) dalam pengasingan di Manado. Buku ini, yang didasarkan pada dua tulisan kunci Perang Jawa, Peter Carey, pada pertengahan 1970-an, tentang Babad Kedung Kebo dan historiografi Jawa, merupakan pengantar inspiratif untuk sejarawan. Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. The middle dragged a tiny bit, but the ending totally made up for it. A solid 4 stars from me.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. I got really invested in the main character's journey. Everything just clicked for me. A solid 5/5 for me.

An average read for me. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. Just right down the middle.
