Overview: Midagi peab siiski olema, mis tõstab pliidi kohalt vaimu kõrgemale, olgu siis maalimist või laulmist, midagi peab olema igal naisel, mis tõstab teda natuke kõrgemale. ––Leida Kibuvits vestluses Ivar Trikkeliga Eesti Raadios 1967. aastal. “Looduse” romaanivõistluse võitja (1932) Leida Kibuvits (1907–1976) oli kolmekümnendatel aastatel eesti väljapaistvamaid prosaiste. Tolle aja kirjanduskriitikute julgeim ennustus oli, et Kibuvits on tõusmas Tammsaare kõrvale. Võiduromaanile “Soomustüdruk” järgnes temalt peagi teatrielu peensusteni läbivalgustav “Paradiisi pärisperenaine” (1934), lisaks romaane ja hulgaliselt novelle. Et Kibuvitsa loomingut tänapäeval aga üldse ei tunta, otsustasime välja anda Leida Kibuvitsast isikuraamatu tema 110. sünniaastapäeva tähistamiseks. Kirjandusteadlane Maarja Vaino annab raamatut sissejuhatavas essees Leida Kibuvitsa lohutu saatuseloo kõrval väga hea ülevaate tema aegumatust kirjanduslikust pärandist. “Kibuvitsa loomingust õhkub ürgset kirjutamisannet ning värskust,” kirjutab Maarja Vaino, “tema lood on täis värve, hääli, lõhnu.” Siinses valikkogus “Kirev” on esindatud Kibuvitsa loomingu erinevad ajajärgud. Kõigepealt katkend tema esikromaani “Soomustüdruk” esmatrükist, seejärel novellid “Lugu Püha Gertrudi säilmest” (1938), “Lepatriinupunane” (1938), “Sipelgaõli” (1941), “25-aastane kala” (1946), “Punane liilia” (1961), “Häda headuse pärast” (1961). Pallase kunstikoolis õppinud Kibuvits valdas meisterlikult joonistamisoskust. Raamatus ilmub pärast 79-aastast vaheaega tema illustratsioone oma novellikogule “Rist ja Rõõm” ning romaanile “Kass arvab, et...”. Kadi Pajupuu saatesõnast: “Kibuvitsa illustratsioonide figuurid, vaatepunktide valik ja pindade rütm viib mõtted filmile.” Kogumiku värvipoognatel esitletakse esmakordselt Leida Kibuvitsa haruldast käsitööpärandit, mis on hoiul Heimtali Muuseumis ja millest raamatus kirjutab paeluvalt Anu Raud: “See raamat Leida Kibuvitsast toob ta meile lähemale, paneb kaastundlikult ja tänutundlikult mõtlema omapärasele loojale keerulistel aegadel.” Mis on Kibuvitsa sõnum meile täna?
