Overview: Genetiğin bir alt bilim dalı olarak 1940’lı yılların başlarında ortaya çıkan moleküler genetik özellikle1960’lı yıllardan itibaren gelişmeye başlamıştır. 1970’li yılların başında genetik mühendisliği (rekombinantDNA teknolojisi) olarak adlandırılan bir teknolojinin de yardımıyla moleküler genetikteki bilgi birikimi sonderece büyük bir hızla artmıştır. Önceleri daha çok dolaylı kanıtlara dayanan bilgiler günümüzde çoğunlukladoğrudan biyolojik moleküller üzerinde yapılan araştırmaların sonuçlarından kaynaklanmaktadır. Dünyadahemen tüm çevrelerce kabul edildiği gibi 21. yüzyılın biyoloji çağı olacağı gerçeğinde kuşkusuz en önemlipaylardan birini moleküler biyolojideki gelişmeler almaktadır.Biyoloji programında genetikle ilgili dersleri okuyan öğrencilere yönelik olarak hazırlanmış olan derskitabının bu ikinci cildinin temel amacı moleküler genetiğe ilişkin konularda başlangıcından günümüze kadarolan bilgi birikimini ana hatlarıyla aktarmaktır. Bunun yanı sıra, ele alınan konularda yer yer ayrıntılı bilgiler deverildiğinden, bu alanda yazılmış Türkçe kitapların yok denecek kadar az olduğu da göz önüne alındığında,bu bilim dalıyla ilgilenen araştırmacılar için bir başvuru kitabı niteliğinde olacağı da umulmaktadır.Kitabın bu cildinde, kalıtsal olayların hücre ve molekül düzeyinde nasıl gerçekleştiğinin açıklanmasıamacıyla genetik materyalin moleküler yapısı ve işlevleri konularında elden geldiğince en yeni bilgilerverilmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu konulara ilişkin temel bilgilerin birçoğu kitabın birinci cildinde (Genetik I.
