Discover Neanderthal Opens the Door to the Universe by Preston Norton. Start reading today and explore ideas, insights, and experiences that stay with you.

Overview: Cliff Hubbard is a huge loser. Literally. His nickname at Happy Valley High School is Neanderthal because he's so enormous — 6'6" and 250 pounds to be exact. He has no one at school and life in his trailer park home has gone from bad to worse ever since his older brother's suicide. There's no one Cliff hates more than the nauseatingly cool quarterback, Aaron Zimmerman. Then Aaron returns to school after a near-death experience with a bizarre claim: while he was unconscious he saw God, who gave him a list of things to do to make Happy Valley High suck less. And God said there's only one person who can help: Neanderthal. To his own surprise, Cliff says he's in. As he and Aaron make their way through the List, which involves a vindictive English teacher, a mysterious computer hacker, a decidedly unchristian cult of Jesus Teens, the local drug dealers, and the meanest bully at HVHS — Cliff feels like he's part of something for the first time since losing his brother. But fixing a broken school isn't as simple as it seems, and just when Cliff thinks they've completed the List, he realizes their mission hits closer to home than he ever imagined.

Really enjoyed this one. It has a good balance of dialogue and description. Everything felt like it moved at the right speed. Will be looking for more from this author.

Not bad, but not my favorite. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. Probably won't read it again, but it was an okay way to pass the time.

A solid read. Interesting premise and executed fairly well. Just a few slow chapters here and there. A solid 4 stars from me.

Good, but not quite perfect. The middle dragged a tiny bit, but the ending totally made up for it. Not bad at all.

It was okay. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. Might work better for someone else, just wasn't completely for me.

I liked it for the most part. Writing is good, just wish there was a bit more depth in certain parts. Still kept my attention though. Not bad at all.

A very satisfying read. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Would probably read it again at some point.

Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. It held my attention, even if a few things were a little predictable. I'd probably recommend it to a friend.
