Overview: Dos inmortales poemas de la vida campesina por Virgilio, el Homero latino. Traduccion, prologos, estudios preliminares y notas de Emilio Gomez de Miguel y el celebre critico literario Juan Bautista Bergua. Virgilio (70-19 a.C.), a veces llamado "el Homero latino" por su obra maestra La Eneida, escribio dos poemas de la vida campesina, Las Bucolicas y Las Georgicas. Gracias a su amistad con Octavio (que mas tarde fue el primer imperador romano, Augusto) y la proteccion de Cayo Mecenas, Virgilio pudo dedicarse a su obra literaria y ser aceptado como el mejor poeta de su epoca. Las Bucolicas (o Eglogas) son poemas pastoriles escritas en hexametros dactilicos donde los protagonistas cantan lamentos y grandezas de la epoca. Aunque inspirado sin duda por Teocrito, Virgilio muestra puntos de vista muy propios. Idealiza a los campesinos y hace frecuentes alusiones a deidades y personajes contemporaneos. Las Georgicas son cuatro poemas didacticos sobre el trabajo de los campos, donde el poeta expresa la necesidad incentivar a la poblacion romana a promover el cultivo de las tierras muy abandonado desde que los campesinos dejaran las tierras en favor de la vida en la ciudad.

Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. I liked the main character, though some of the side plots were just okay. Still a good book.

I have mixed feelings about this one. Some parts were interesting, while others were a bit of a slog to get through. Might work better for someone else, just wasn't completely for me.

A very satisfying read. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Would probably read it again at some point.

Not bad, but not my favorite. It had some good moments, but the overall plot felt a bit disjointed in the second half. Probably won't read it again, but it was an okay way to pass the time.

Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. Interesting premise and executed fairly well. Just a few slow chapters here and there. I'd probably recommend it to a friend.

Not bad, but not my favorite. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. Just right down the middle.
