Overview: En skæbnefortælling om ensomhed, skam og uforløst kærligheden. "Hvor der er fugle" handler om en lille norsk familie i midten af forrige århundrede. Midt i Nordatlanten, et par kilometer fra kysten, ligger Kjeungskjær fyr. Det er Norges eneste ottekantede fyr, og i dag er det fuldt automatiseret, men i gamle dage passede fyrfolket lanternen og sørgede for at skibene ikke gik på grund langs kysten. Fyrfolket var sære mennesker, og man sagde at de ikke var rigtige i hovedet. De levede isoleret halvdelen af året, for når vinteren spidser til, er det umuligt at komme til og fra fyret."Hvor der er fugle" begynder med den gamle fyrpassers død. Pladsen på Kjeungskær fyr er pludselig ledig, og en ung mand på flugt fra sin fortid søger stillingen. Da man ikke må bo på fyret alene er han imidlertid nødt til at finde en kone, og valget falder på præstens datter, som bliver gravid den første nat. Romanen følger familien på det lille klippeskær i Nordatlanten, hvor det stormer så meget at bølgerne nogle gange bliver højere end fyret og børnene må bindes fast for ikke at blæse i havet.

A solid read. Interesting premise and executed fairly well. Just a few slow chapters here and there. I'd probably recommend it to a friend.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Worth the time and money.

An average read for me. It felt a bit repetitive in the middle. Could have been shorter. Might work better for someone else, just wasn't completely for me.

Finished it in a couple of days. I got really invested in the main character's journey. Everything just clicked for me. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.
