Overview: Pats! Boem! had dit boek ook kunnen heten. Of het nu het geluid was van een draai om de oren, of een deur die iemand achter zich dichtslaat, Patrick Demompere verscheen in ieder geval met een knal op het toneel. Dat was toen hij enige jaren geleden in het Belgische weekblad Hurrio onder de noemer Ezelsoor & Co. de nieuwste literatuur op de korrel begon te nemen.Demompere wilde de lezer zijn stem en rechten teruggeven. 'Herkauwt hij den blindelings wat die incestueuze kliek hem serveert? Koopt hij hun romannetjes den alleen omdat anderen ze kopen en om ze, als bewijs van goed gedrag, duidelijk zichtbaar op tafel te leggen? Is de lezer zo'n sukkel?' Er zou een wekelijks spervuur volgen. Van de klap lijkt literair België nog steeds niet bekomen. Demompere liet zijn lezersvriendelijke licht schijnen over oudgedienden als Monika van Paemel en Guido van Heulendonk. Erg! Maar ook 'behandelde' hij noorderburen als Cees Noote6oom en J.J. Voskuil. Allemaal even Erg! Zijn grootste aandacht ging intussen uit naar jongere schrijvers als Joris Moens, Jeroen Olyslaegers en Tom Naegels, en dat deed vermoeden dat het hier om een generatiegenoot ging. Maar verder zijn alle speurtochten naar identiteit en achtergronden van Patrick Demompere vruchteloos gebleken. We hebben alleen toestemming te onthullen dat het gaat om een assistent-boekverkoper in een der grotere boekhandels van het land. Zijn filosofie, verklaart hij trots, bestaat uit slechts twee zinnen. Really enjoyed this one. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Glad I picked this up.

Glad someone recommended this to me. It has a good balance of dialogue and description. Everything felt like it moved at the right speed. Would probably read it again at some point.

Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. Interesting premise and executed fairly well. Just a few slow chapters here and there. Still a good book.
