Overview: Reviews From Reader By Peter N. Jones : A Classic of the Genre This is an early classic in the genre. Not about the usual blood sucking vampire you find in today's books - although blood is part of it - but rather about a vampire, love, and the psychology of having something desired. Don't be fooled by the beginning either, it is the ending that contains the twist and surprise. A must read if you are a fan of the dark, mysterious, and forbidden. By I. Matthes : A great read. Not sexual at all I don't know where the idea that this book was a gay novel came from. There's really no sexual overtones and all of the main characters are interested in people of the opposite sex at various points in time. There are only two kisses in the entire book and that's as far as it goes. So if you wanted this book for sex, look elsewhere. That said, this is really a splendid read. The ending is the most shocking part, so make sure to read to the very end. Definitely a twist you don't expect. The whole concept of a vampire who is focused on becoming a literary genius by stealing artistic ability is fresh and exciting. Highly recommended. By C. Richard : Scary and Strange Not about the usual blood sucking ghoul, but a vampire just the same. It was written a while ago, so the language might sound a little funny to more modern ears. I understand that the author had a very bizarre history. The ending is quite surprising and shocking - reminded me of a good horror movie, but without the usual monsters and gore fest. I don't know where the writer of the book description saw all the sexual overtones - if any - they were buried pretty deeply if you ask me. Singer : great book Great vampire book a must read for all ages. great story and characters will excite the humblest soul. well worth the read highly recommend this book By Jemmie : Not what I expected, but a literary classic! I got this book because I enjoy paranormal erotica and the synopsis made this sound like the first "homosexual vampire" fiction. It is a false pretense, let me tell you! Sure, there are some hints at male/male love and relationships, but that's where it ends: hints. And you have to dig deep and catch the undertones to even notice that they're there! There is nothing overly sexual or explicit at all in this book. In fact, it is dark and sinister and downright frightening in a way that puts Poe to shame! Why aren't we told to read THIS short story instead of Poe, in fact? It is true horror, and left me shocked, aghast at what happened, and outraged at how helpless I felt. I can't believe this was written so long ago and I'd never heard of it before my husband stumbled across it and recommended it to me a few weeks ago! I don't want to ever read it again though, because it left me in such a puzzled, bewildered, shocked state of mind. But the types of discussions and literary analysis that could be done with a work such as this have my teacher-self all up in a serious commotion! If I taught English, I'd find all sorts of ways to wriggle this little gem into my repertoire of must-reads each semester just to see the students' reactions to it :) A great, quick read for anyone with a fondness for the dark, mysterious, somber, and macabre.

A very satisfying read. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.
