Overview: Antonio Gramsci è una figura importantissima nel panorama culturale e politico italiano ed è importante conoscere le Lettere dal Carcere che, se è vero che si leggono come una sorta di “diario”, ci permettono di ricostruire il ritratto di un protagonista dei drammatici eventi della storia italiana nella prima metà del XX secolo. E questo carattere è rafforzato dalla particolare condizione dell’autore, sottoposta all’azione di quella ”lima sottile che disgrega la mente e la volontà del condannato”. Le Lettere di Gramsci sono ormai un classico della letteratura italiana, tanto per popolarità, quanto per unanime giudizio critico.L’opera di Gramsci “appartiene anche a chi è di altro o opposto partito politico”, scrive Benedetto Croce all’indomani della prima uscita editoriale delle Lettere.Sempre Croce, la cui introduzione del 1947 è riportata integralmente al termine del volume, ci parla di Gramsci come “uomo di pensiero…, di quelli che nei primi decenni del secolo in Italia attesero a formarsi una mente filosofica e storica adeguata ai problemi del presente…” E nel pensiero di Gramsci espresso nelle Lettere trova molti punti critici di contatto: “il rinnovato concetto della filosofia nella sua tradizione speculativa e dialettica e non già positivistica e classificatoria, l'ampia visione della storia, l'unione dell'erudizione col filosofare, il senso vivissimo della poesia e dell'arte nel loro carattere originale”. A very satisfying read. It has a good balance of dialogue and description. Everything felt like it moved at the right speed. Would probably read it again at some point.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. I loved how the story unfolded. It kept me guessing without being too confusing. A solid 5/5 for me.
