Overview: O LivroEsse livro, escrito para professores do Ensino Médio e estudantes de Licenciatura em Matemática, cobre os principais assuntos estudados na segunda série do Ensino Médio.O livro tem duas partes bem distinta. A primeira parte é dedicada à Matemática Discreta, contendo o estudo de Progressões (com aplicações à Matemática Financeira), Análise Combinatória e Probabilidade. Um cuidado sempre presente nessa parte é o de evitar o uso excessivo de fórmulas. Na maioria dos casos, elas são desnecessárias e substituídas, com vantagem, pelo uso consciente das definições e dos princípios fundamentais. Por exemplo, os professores são aconselhados a ensinar os alunos a fazer uso inteligente do princípio da multiplicação em Análise Combinatória, ao invés de recorrer a uma profusão de fórmulas, cujo uso é muitas vezes confuso para o aluno ("Professor, aqui eu uso arranjos ou combinações?").A segunda parte do livro é dedicada à Geometria Espacial e tem duas preocupações principais. A primeira é oferecer uma boa fundamentação do assunto para o professor, discutindo diversas formas de levar esses fundamentos para os alunos. A segunda é apresentar, em cada tópico, sugestões de atividades em sala de aula que visam a tornar o assunto mais interessante para o aluno e facilitar o desenvolvimento de sua visão e intuição espaciais. Para tal, sempre que possível, são apresentados exemplos de objetos do mundo real que ilustrem conceitos importantes.Os AutoresElon Lages Lima nasceu em Maceió, onde estudou até o curso secundário, começou seu bacharelado em Matemática no Ceará e o concluiu no Rio de Janeiro. Fez mestrado e doutorado na Universidade de Chicago. É um Guggenheim Fellow, membro titular da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, ganhador do Prêmio Anísio Teixeira em Educação (1991), ex-presidente da Sociedade Brasileira de Matemática e ex-Diretor do IMPA, onde começou sua carreira profissional e permanece até hoje. Este é o seu quarto livro no Projeto Euclides, um dos quais (Espaços Métricos) ganhou o Prêmio Jabuti em 1978.Paulo Cezar Pinto Carvalho graduou-se pelo IME em 1975, fez mestrado no IMPA e doutorou-se em matemática na Cornell University em 1984. É pesquisador do IMPA, trabalha sobretudo em modelagem geométrica e pesquisa operacional. É membro da Comissão de Olimpíadas de Matemática da SBM e outros.Eduardo Wagner é professor de Matemática no Rio de Janeiro. Vem atuando há 10 anos como professor nos cursos de atualização de professores do Ensino Médio promovidos pelo IMPA. É membro da Comissão de Olimpíadas de Matemática da SBM tendo sido seu coordenador de 1995 a 2000. É membro do Comitê Editorial da Revista do Professor de Matemática da SBM, tendo contribuído com diversos artigos sobre Ensino da Matemática e resolução de problemas. Tem muitos livros publicados no Brasil e no exterior. Além da matemática, a musica e sua principal atração.Augusto César de Oliveira Morgado é carioca, botafoguense, foi professor da Escola Naval e da Escola Nacional de Ciências Estatísticas do IBGE. Atualmente trabalha na Fundação Getúlio Vargas, lecionando Estatística e Matemática Financeira. Também tem participado em cursos de atualização para professores de Ensino Médio, no Brasil e no Peru. I was pleasantly surprised. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.

Not bad, but not my favorite. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. It's fine if you have nothing else to read.

Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. The middle dragged a tiny bit, but the ending totally made up for it. A solid 4 stars from me.
