Overview: Didik, seorang anak muda, lulusan SMA, dari keluarga sederhana, dari sebuah desa kecil di pinggiran kota Blitar, datang ke ITB di Bandung. Sedari dini sang ibu menasihati: kuliahlah yang rajin, tidak usah ikut-ikutan demo, supaya bisa lulus cepat, dapat pekerjaan bagus, dan hidup bercukupan.Tapi, garis linier semacam itu tidak ada di pikiran seorang Didik. Sedari SMA, dia telah diracuni oleh sebuah ide untuk aktif di dunia kemahasiswaan, melalui sebuah buku pledoi mahasiswa ITB dalam peristiwa 5 Agustus 1989. Di samping itu, benih kepekaan sosial telah tumbuh saat menangkap kepahitan hidup di kampungnya dan rentetan kejadian tragis yang dialami teman-teman dekatnya.Berbekal ide itu, tidak heran jika jalan hidup seorang Didik berbeda dari kebanyakan mahasiswa lain di eranya. Sejak awal dia mencari dan menceburkan diri ke dalam arus gerakan mahasiswa di kampus. Spirit itu menemukan momentumnya oleh sejumlah kejadian penting di kampus: kasus skorsing, aksi bakar KTM, doktrin PPLK, pesta wisuda, kaderisasi PSIK, dan diksar himpunan GEA. Peristiwa-peristiwa itu memaksanya mengalami perang batin antara kesetiaan di jalur pergerakan mahasiswa dan pesan sang ibunda tentang jalur murni belajar di kampus.Namun, pelan-pelan dia memahami, gerakan besar dan masif hanya mungkin dimulai dari langkah-langkah kecil. Bahkan langkah kecil itu dimulai dari pertemuan satu-dua orang, ngobrol ngalor-ngidul. Pendeknya, revolusi itu bisa datang dari obrolan secangkir kopi.Dengan kesadaran itu, dia bergerak di level himpunan jurusan, di tingkat universitas, lalu jaringan antaruniversitas, hingga berpuncak pada pendudukan gedung DPR-MPR yang mempercepat kejatuhan Soeharto. Dia, bersama ribuan anak-anak muda lain, telah menjadi bagian dari sejarah Indonesia. Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Will be looking for more from this author.

I have mixed feelings about this one. The pacing was a bit slow and I found myself skimming a few pages. It wasn't terrible, just okay. It's fine if you have nothing else to read.
