Ea nu reprezinta o analiza exhaustiva a noii religii, care nici nu a îmbracat înca o forma definitiva, ci este mai curând o explorare preliminara a acelor tendinţe spirituale care, dupa cum vedem, netezesc calea adevaratei religii anticrestine – o religie care pastreaza aparenţele crestinismului, dar care se bazeaza pe experienţe „iniţiatice” de factura pagâna.În ziua de 10 mai 1976, Părintele Serafim Rose se îndrepta spre Mănăstirea Sfântul Gherman, aflată în munţii din partea de nord a Californiei. Se întorcea din Oregon, de unde tocmai ridicase un colet cu prima sa carte publicată - Ortodoxia şi religia viitorului -, ce avea să devină un catalizator al vieţii duhovniceşti, în special în Rusia. Această carte examina fenomenele religioase contemporane, manifestări ale unei „noi conştiinţe religioase" care pregătea instaurarea unei religii mondiale unice şi marca începutul unei „revărsări a duhului demonismului" din vremurile de pe urmă. Nicicând nu mai fusese scrisă o analiză atât de pătrunzătoare a curentelor şi tendinţelor spirituale ale secolului al XX-lea, căci nimeni nu le mai studiase într-un duh atât de apropiat de înţelepciunea netrecătoare a Sfinţilor Părinţi.Între 1970 şi 1975, perioadă în care Părintele Serafim şi-a scris cartea, se considera că majoritatea fenomenelor pe care le descria aparţin unui curent marginal. El a înţeles însă ceea ce urma să se petreacă: a prevăzut transformarea curentului periferic într-unul din ce în ce mai larg acceptat. Părintele Serafim sesiza înspăimântătoarea unitate de scop, aflată în spatele unui evantai de fenomene aparent disparate, şi întrevedea rezultatul final profilându-se ameninţător.Călătorind către sud, cu această carte ce avea să dezvăluie adevăratul chip al celor mai subtile forme de înşelăciune demonică ale zilelor noastre, era firesc să poposească la unul dintre centrele de iradiere a neo-păgânismului american: Muntele Shasta. Considerat de unii ca loc sfânt al populaţiei de amerindieni, Muntele Shasta era de multă vreme un centru de activităţi oculte, în plină efervescenţă la acea vreme. Părintele Serafim parcurse o parte din drumul pe munte, în camioneta încărcată cu cărţi. Stând în picioare în umbra uriaşă a muntelui, într-un loc în care se ţineau de obicei ritualurile neo-păgâne, părintele intonă cântările Sfintelor Paşti, cântă despre Învierea lui Hristos şi biruinţa Lui asupra lui Satan şi a legii morţii. Un gând, pe care îl mai avusese şi în alte rânduri, îi răsări în minte: „Aici trebuie să vină un preot ortodox ca să stropească muntele cu apă sfinţită!" Mai târziu, după hirotonirea sa întru preot, avea să se întoarcă şi să binecuvinteze muntele. Prin cartea sa însă avea să facă mai mult decât atât: avea să mute munţii.

It was okay. Some parts were interesting, while others were a bit of a slog to get through. Probably won't read it again, but it was an okay way to pass the time.
