Overview: Decennia lang trok Kees van de Meene (1935) door Nederland en delen van Duitsland en België om, gewapend met een camera en een speciale fotovergunning, een grote verzameling beelden aan te leggen van zo ongeveer alles wat met treinen en het spoor te maken heeft. Al reizende hield Van de Meene nauwkeurig bij wat hij deed en waar hij fotografeerde door aantekeningen te maken van de locatie, datum van de foto, treinstelnummer en de fotografisch-technische informatie: het soort film en de belichtingstijd, maar ook de kleinbeeldcamera's waarmee hij fotografeerde. Alles werd systematisch bijgehouden in kleine schoolschriftjes, aanvankelijk zelfs met ingeplakte contactafdrukjes en hier en daar een schets van de situatie ter plekke. I liked it for the most part. Interesting premise and executed fairly well. Just a few slow chapters here and there. Still a good book.

A very satisfying read. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.
