– BOOKLIST LOUNG UNG s-a născut in 1970 in Phnom Penh, in familia cu şapte copii a unui funcţionar guvernamental. In 1980, Ung a reuşit să scape din Cambodgia ca supravieţuitoare a regimului khmerilor roşii ai lui Pol Pol, un regim de infometare a populaţiei şi exterminări in masă in aşa-numitele „Campuri ale morţii”. După ce a emigrat in Statele Unite, a scris trei cărţi in care işi relatează experienţele de viaţă din anii 1975–2003: cartea de faţă, in care descrie viaţa in Cambodgia intre anii 1975–1980; Lucky Child: A Daughter of Cambodia Reunites with the Sister She Left Behind, in care povesteşte despre felul in care s-a daptat la viaţa in Statele Unite şi despre ceilalţi membri ai familiei rămaşi in Cambodgia, acoperind perioada 1980-2003; şi ultimul volum al trilogiei, Lulu in the Sky: A daughter of Cambodia Finds Love, Healing, and Double Happiness, publicat in 2012. Ea locuieşte impreună cu soţul ei in Shaker Heights, o suburbie a oraşului Cleveland, Ohio.

I was pleasantly surprised. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Would probably read it again at some point.
