Ob er nun einen vietnamesischen Fischhändler kennenlernte, einen von islamischen Mitgliedern geprägten Boxklub oder eine kabylische Tänzerin – überall traf er auf fesselnde Lebensberichte und die Bereitschaft, dem Gastland etwas zurückzugeben. Aufklärung, aber keine Verklärung lautet das Credo seines Buches, das nicht für den Stammtisch bestimmt ist, sondern der Differenzierung dienen soll. AUTORENPORTRÄT Jürgen Bertram, Jahrgang 1940, begann seine journalistische Laufbahn bei einer niedersächsischen Heimatzeitung und kam 1972 nach Redakteursjahren bei der Deutschen Presseagentur und beim Nachrichtenmagazin Der Spiegel zum NDR-Fernsehen, für das er 13 Jahre als Fernsehkorrespondent aus China und Südostasien berichtete. Er ist Autor zahlreicher zeitkritischer Bücher. Für den Osburg Verlag schrieb er zusammen mit seiner Frau Helga den Auswanderer-Report "Sehnsucht Australien" (2009).

Pretty good overall. The middle dragged a tiny bit, but the ending totally made up for it. Enjoyable weekend read.

Glad someone recommended this to me. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. It has a good balance of dialogue and description. Everything felt like it moved at the right speed. Will be looking for more from this author.

Pretty good overall. Writing is good, just wish there was a bit more depth in certain parts. Still kept my attention though. Not bad at all.
