Overview: A vida e a obra de William Harvey são o tema deste livro de Regina Andrés Rebollo, que também inclui a obra fundamental do médico e anatomista inglês, traduzida diretamente do latim. Harvey, que viveu no começo do século 17, quando ainda predominavam as concepções de Aristóteles acerca da anatomia, revolucionou a Medicina ao desvendar o sistema de circulação sanguínea. A autora mostra um Harvey fortemente influenciado pelo ambiente intelectual da Universidade de Pádua, onde ele cursou Medicina durante seis anos, depois de obter formação de quatro anos em Artes. Harvey adere ao Aristóteles dos tratados sobre os animais, dos Segundos Analíticos, da Filosofia Natural, encontrando ali um modelo de ciência e, especialmente, um método de descoberta e justificação. Considerada por alguns o resultado da prática da chamada “ciência médica experimental”, da qual Harvey seria um dos precursores, a descoberta do sistema de circulação do sangue resultaria, para outros, da perspectiva filosófica de forte tradição aristotélica de seu inventor. Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. Interesting premise and executed fairly well. Just a few slow chapters here and there. Enjoyable weekend read.
