Overview: Francesc Candel aborda en aquest llibre la problemàtica de la forta immigració que va rebre Catalunya durant el període de l’expansió industrial a la postguerra. Candel és un testimoni directe de la gent, dels ambients, dels problemes i de les inquietuds de la Catalunya suburvial, de la qual ell mateix va formar part. Publicat per primera vegada l’any 1964, aquest assaig va tenir un gran ressò i un fort impacte social pel plantejament d’una situació que fins aleshores no havia estat tractada d’una manera oberta. Al llarg dels anys Els altres catalans s’ha convertit en un document històric sobre la immigració a Catalunya de referència obligada, tema que actualment torna a tenir plena vigència. En motiu del primer aniversari de la mort de Francesc Candel, Edicions 62 recupera el text original, reintegrant els fragments que va obligar a tallar la censura, text que tot i les moltes reedicions mai no havia vist la llum fins ara. Per primera vegada oferim al lector el text íntegre, tal i com el va escriure Candel, i en annexe, l’informe del censor que “justifica” els motius dels talls. D’altra banda, s’inclou un pròleg indèdit, fet expressament per aquesta edició de l’escriptora Najat el Hachmi, guanyadora del Premi Ramon Llull 2008, i ella mateixa procedent d’una família immigrant, que apropa als lectors d’avui el text clàssic de Candel.

A very satisfying read. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.
