Overview: The Cheese and the Worms is a study of the popular culture in the sixteenth century as seen through the eyes of one man, a miller brought to trial during the Inquisition. Carlo Ginzburg uses the trial records of Domenico Scandella, a miller also known as Menocchio, to show how one person responded to the confusing political and religious conditions of his time.For a common miller, Menocchio was surprisingly literate. In his trial testimony he made references to more than a dozen books, including the Bible, Boccaccio's Decameron, Mandeville's Travels, and a "mysterious" book that may have been the Koran. Pretty good overall. I liked the main character, though some of the side plots were just okay. Not bad at all.

Good, but not quite perfect. Interesting premise and executed fairly well. Just a few slow chapters here and there. I'd probably recommend it to a friend.

Really enjoyed this one. It has a good balance of dialogue and description. Everything felt like it moved at the right speed. A solid 5/5 for me.

Good, but not quite perfect. Writing is good, just wish there was a bit more depth in certain parts. Still kept my attention though. Still a good book.

Really enjoyed this one. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Worth the time and money.
