Overview: After a long absence from his native southern Appalachians, Thomas Rain Crowe returned to live alone deep in the North Carolina woods. This is Crowe’s chronicle of that time when, for four years, he survived by his own hand without electricity, plumbing, modern-day transportation, or regular income. It is a Walden for today, paced to nature’s rhythms and cycles and filled with a wisdom one gains only through the pursuit of a consciously simple, spiritual, environmentally responsible life.Crowe made his home in a small cabin he had helped to build years before―at a restless age when he could not have imagined that the place would one day call him back. I was pleasantly surprised. It has a good balance of dialogue and description. Everything felt like it moved at the right speed. Glad I picked this up.

Really enjoyed this one. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Would probably read it again at some point.

It was okay. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. Just right down the middle.

Glad someone recommended this to me. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Will be looking for more from this author.

Pretty good overall. Writing is good, just wish there was a bit more depth in certain parts. Still kept my attention though. A solid 4 stars from me.

Finished it in a couple of days. I got really invested in the main character's journey. Everything just clicked for me. Would probably read it again at some point.
