Overview: En El hombre unidimensional, su obra más famosa, presenta a la sociedad capitalista “avanzada” como una sociedad en la que el hombre ha perdido su sentido crítico. El consumismo y la “liberación de las costumbres” lo han transforman en un ser cada vez más adaptado e integrado al sistema. Ya no hay espacio para la oposición y la crítica, la sociedad unidimensional “integra en sí toda auténtica oposición y absorbe en su seno cualquier alternativa”. En ella se da “una confortable, tersa, razonable, democrática no libertad”. El capitalismo avanzado ejerce su dominio, su control total, de un modo sutil, manipulando los deseos y las necesidades de las personas. “No sólo determina las ocupaciones, las habilidades y las actitudes socialmente requeridas, sino también las necesidades y las aspiraciones individuales”.La filosofía de esta sociedad unidimensinal es el positivismo, que sirve de base a la racionalidad tecnológica y a la lógica del dominio. Y esta filosofía no tiene rival porque se ha anulado el espacio de la crítica.Contra las previsiones de Marx, hasta el propio proletariado ha perdido su impronta revolucionaria, seducido por el confort y el consumismo. Por esta razón Marcuse busca otros sujetos revolucionarios, y los encuentra en los extranjeros, los explotados, los desocupados, las minorías, los marginados y los excluidos del sistema. Su sola presencia muestra la necesidad de poner fin a condiciones e instituciones intolerables. De todos modos Marcuse no aclara cómo sería un proceso revolucionario protagonizado por estos actores. Prefiere que su pensamiento permanezcan en la negatividad, en la crítica, unido a “aquellos que, sin esperanza, dieron y dan la vida por el Gran Rechazo”.

Finished it in a couple of days. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.
