Overview: This story of the perilous mission to destroy Hitler's oil refineries in Romania was hailed by The New Yorker as "the very model of a war book." On August 1, 1943, an enormous armada of American B-24 Liberator bombers roared at nearly treetop level across the peaceful farms and villages of Romania. Their target: “the taproot of German might,” Hitler’s giant oil refineries at Ploesti. Hundreds of U.S. airmen volunteered for the mission despite warnings that half might not return. Pretty good overall. I liked the main character, though some of the side plots were just okay. A solid 4 stars from me.

I was pleasantly surprised. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Worth the time and money.

Not bad, but not my favorite. The pacing was a bit slow and I found myself skimming a few pages. It wasn't terrible, just okay. Probably won't read it again, but it was an okay way to pass the time.
